Hi, I’m Sarah (she/her)
I believe that therapy is a place for the full complexity of your life. Where the grief, the joy, and the parts you've never said out loud can be held and witnessed by another. It's a privilege to be trusted with that, and my hope is that we can explore it together.
I show up with warmth, humour, and compassion. I think authentic connection is healing, and that belief is what brought me to this work. Before counselling, I worked in the environmental field and then as a Registered Nurse, supporting infants, children, parents and caregivers. Over the years I witnessed the many ways systems fail people. My heart lies in building relationships, something that felt hard to sustain in that environment. This became the foundation of my master’s work: exploring how institutions rooted in oppressive systems can obstruct genuine care, and how we could do things differently.
Those experiences inform how I practice. My primary approach is Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), where the relationship we build together is foundational to change. I also draw on somatic interventions and values-based cognitive approaches, always working collaboratively to find what fits you. Within that, grief and loss hold a particular place in my work. Outside of sessions, I volunteer providing grief support and will be co-facilitating a group for those bereaved by suicide loss.
As a white, settler, cisgender woman, I strive to remain accountable to how my identities and experiences show up in the counselling space. I live between Vancouver and Quito, Ecuador where my partner is based, navigating between cultures and languages. Living between the two has been one of the great gifts and complications of my life. Being loved in two directions, with my heart in each place. I bring curiosity to the ways each of us carries our histories, places, and communities within us.
Lately I've been rediscovering Muay Thai, exploring ethnobotany, and developing a passion for birding. I'm currently seeing clients under clinical supervision as I finish my Master’s in Counselling Psychology, and will be registered with BCACC upon graduation.
